Many new 60 reg cars have long lead times - careful, you could be onto an 11 reg!

The new-style '60' registration plates launched on the 1st September, but waiting lists are at an all-time high thanks to increasing demand and the fact that some factories are still recovering from shutdowns in 2009.

We keep abreast of the current waiting times and our new car offers show the availability date, and we only display cars that have a realistic delivery time frame

However buyers who order a new car now from other dealers could end up waiting till 2011 to take delivery. We've been told that some dealers are quoting a standard waiting time for a new car, but we know that in many cases delivery is taking much longer - in some instances up to six or eight months. VAT rises to 20% from 1 January next year, so that could mean paying hundreds of pounds more than they thought for their car. We think this is wrong, and will always give you honest advice, and the most accurate delivery time we can, so please call and ask if you have any questions about a new 60 reg car and the true waiting time.

Today the BBC lost a high court battle with stunt man and former racing driver Ben Collins. Dressed all in white, The Stig has been a man of mystery on the BBC's Top Gear motoring show since 2003, and the BBC wanted to keep it that way.

5 facts about Ben Collins:

1) He was born on 13 February 1975. He is based in Bristol and has two daughters Izzy, three, and Scarlett, 18 months.

2) Collins spent four years in the army. He has also worked as a TV presenter and as a brand manager for Hornby Scalextric.

3) He started motor racing in 1994, and went on to earn praise from Sir Jackie Stewart during his stint in Formula 3. Sir Jackie commented: "When you see the likes of Ben Collins in Formula One, remember you saw them here first." He has also raced in Nascar and at the Le Mans 24 hour.

4) He has been a stunt double for Daniel Craig in James Bond film The Quantum of Solace, and for Nicolas Cage in National Treasure: Book of Secrets.

5) He has appeared as himself on Top Gear, including taking on a skateboard-cross style challenge

Collins autobiography is due out on September 16.

New 60 reg cars on the road today. Have you spotted one yet?

Why 60? Well it's 2010 so March brought the 10 plate which made sense to all, now we're in the second half of the reg year you add 50 to get the new plate - just like last year was 09 and then 59.
